Constraints: A friend or foe?

No one loves constraints. They often feel like creative blockers. Until we realize, those constraints actually help make forward progress. By reducing the number of decisions one has to make they're quite useful.

Which is easier for the average person?
To turn a blank canvas into a beautiful painting?
– or –
To use preselected colors inside the lines of a paint by number?

Sure, there may be more creative freedom in the former, but the constraints of the later will likely lead to a finished product much quicker.

If you're stuck, add constraints, now remove them. Did you have break through?
