The art of the sale

A hard sell doesn't have to be hard

Last week, I encountered two contrasting sales situations.

Scenario one: a tile store. The associate insisted on helping, all the while convinced they knew what we wanted. Their lack of awareness of our family's need for space to talk, ultimately drove us out the door quickly. No sale.

Scenario two: a clothing store. The associate engaged me in conversation, offered me a drink, gave me freedom to explore, then reengaged when they noticed I needed assistance. Successful sale.

I don't claim to be good at sales; but being listened to, allowing space, and genuine care ultimately resulted in my sale.
