As I laid in my daughters bed listening to music to fall asleep, I began to tap my finger on my leg to the beat.
After a few measures, she
began to copy my movements. I stopped when I noticed her mimicking me, but a few moments later I unconsciously picked up by tapping my toe. She followed suit soon after.
I was a little
frustrated because she was supposed to be falling asleep! Then it hit me: we don't get to choose what actions our kids copy. The frustration manifested itself only because I was unintentionally teaching this behavior.
